BUSINESS NEWS

  • Heights Taco and Tamale Co. closed for renovations on March 24—its historic location serving Ark-Mex for 10 years is set to reopen in early April.  Arkansas Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Flywheel Energy plans to invest $25—30 million to drill five new appraisal wells in the Fayetteville Shale in 2025 and restart local drilling activity. The company, which operates 5,600 wells that produce natural gas, hopes its renewed efforts will benefit local royalty owners and service providers as prices rise.  Pulse of Conway

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Central Arkansas held a dedication ceremony at its Student Success and Veterans Resource Center where a room was named Poulter Commons in honor of its former provost—an influential leader at the school. The university said the new space will support student and veteran services.  Log Cabin Democrat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DOGE cut over $179 million in federal grants from our state Departments of Health, Human Services + Education because COVID-19 extra funding ended. The cuts include over $158 million in unspent health funds, $11 million canceled on March 24th for temporary human services programs, and $9.6 million for a school program, though many services will keep running + further adjustments are planned.  ABC7
  • Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin rejected a proposed ballot measure to change the state's direct democracy process after Little Rock attorney David Couch submitted it on March 11 on behalf of the League of Women Voters due to unclear wording—he said the measure's language was too vague. The proposal would have stopped the General Assembly from changing voter-approved amendments, and the league said it will review Griffin's feedback—then fix and resubmit the measure.  Arkansas Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Over the weekend, the Razorbacks men's basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 by defeating St. John's and the baseball team began its SEC home slate with three wins over South Carolina — a big boost for Hog sports. Arkansas also hired Kelsi Musick to lead the women's basketball team — a move that signals a fresh start for that program.  Arkansas Times
