Community members held a prayer vigil at Conway's Fifth Avenue Park after a party turned deadly on Sunday when shots left two dead and nine injured—police said six weapons were used with over 100 rounds fired and victims identified as Tatayana and Demetrius.

Gunshots were fired in the UCA parking lot on April 19 at 1:08 a.m., injuring a student who was treated at Conway Regional Medical Center and later released; UCA police have taken one suspect into custody and identified another—officials say the incident appears isolated—.

Students at UCA are preparing for final exams that begin Saturday, April 26 as they balance class work with jobs and social life.

Many are using stress relievers such as yoga — and study groups to help them manage the pressure during this busy time.

UCA Career Services has named senior Kristi Fraley the student worker of the year for 2024-2025 for her work as a community mentor in the Living Learning Communities—she received a $100 scholarship and plaque for her efforts to support commuter students and improve campus resources.

UCA will hold its spring commencement on May 1 with a graduate ceremony and on May 2 with undergraduate ceremonies from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. More than 1,000 undergraduates and over 250 graduates will receive degrees and awards including five president’s medallion honors and the Distinguished Faculty Emeritus title—recognizing their achievements.

The Arkansas Drug Take Back Day is set for Saturday, April 26 when drop-boxes will be available statewide to collect unused medications.

The event is part of the DEA Take Back Program — a measure to help combat the opioid epidemic.
