Green Bay Packaging announced a $1 billion expansion of its production facility in Morrilton that will boost the Arkansas Kraft paper mill—attracting up to 1,200 contractors at its peak—and increase production capacity.

The project, set to finish in the first quarter of 2028, will create 35 new jobs for the more than 600 employees in Conway County.

Arvest Bank’s May 2025 report shows that Conway’s labor force was 37,138 and Faulkner County’s was 66,387 with both areas recording a 3.2% unemployment rate in March.

The report further reveals that total sales in Conway dropped by 3.52% in April YTD to $746.268 million—restaurant sales grew by 2.76% in March while hotel receipts fell by 15.74%.

State revenues are down 4% from last year after GOP tax cuts lowered the individual income tax rate from 5.1% to 3.9% and the corporate rate from 4.7% to 4.3% — and a delay in tax filings due to April storms will shift some collections to next fiscal year.

Conway firefighters say their pay has not kept pace with the city's rapid growth and are urging officials to increase wages.
