- ➤ Forty-five years ago, an airman dropped a wrench socket at the Titan II Launch Complex north of Damascus, which pierced a missile fuel tank and led to an explosion that injured 21 people and killed one airman on September 19. The explosion forced evacuations and ended the Titan II Missile Program, and Southside Bee Branch High School students now honor the event by naming Livingston Lane—one that will soon have a historical marker installed along Highway 65—ensuring the disaster is remembered.
