  • Arkansas PBS Family Day is a free public event set to take place at the Arkansas PBS headquarters in Conway—offering fun play and educational activities for families to enjoy.  Log Cabin Democrat
  • Officials at the Arkansas Foodbank said the end of the USDA annual food insecurity survey could affect their plans for local aid — they will look for other ways to measure food needs. They expect the change to push them to adjust their data gathering methods soon.  THV 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chef MaryAnn Strange and Ryan Williams of R&M Coffee Bar & Cafe appeared on Fox 16 Food Spotlight last week where Williams proposed to Strange live on air; the new coffee shop at 221 W. 2nd St. in Little Rock will open in two to three weeks and will offer all day brunch, coffee favorites and live music evenings.  Arkansas Times

  • Auditions for the Cool Yulers singing and dance group for youth ages 6-18 will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday+ or 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church at 1610.  Log Cabin Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting Oct. 1, child care providers in the School Readiness Assistance program will receive lower state reimbursements — some families will have to pay co-pays. Local centers are concerned that quick budget adjustments may force staff cuts and reduce care quality for children.  Arkansas Times
  • Timothy Purkiss, who served as director of event services and summer programs at Hendrix College, has been hired as assistant director of the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation following Sarah Engeler-Young's retirement—he will now oversee the foundation's work.  Log Cabin Democrat
