- ➤ Childcare centers in central Arkansas will lose thousands in funding in ten days if state rules take effect. Local advocates are working fast to save these top facilities—measures that could protect services for children. THV 11
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Arkansas State Fire Marshall’s Office reported a record 50 fire-related deaths this year—the highest since 2016—with common causes including space heaters, improperly serviced fireplaces, electrical malfunctions, and overloaded cords. Conway Fire Chief Mike Winter said the city had one mobile home fire death on Aug. 30th and now offers free smoke detector installations to help prevent further tragedies. The Echo

- ➤ Reynolds Performance Hall is hosting a gallery that displays quilts memorializing AIDS victims from Oct. 6th to Oct. 31st—each panel honors a different individual, including several Arkansans. - ➤ UCA administration announced Brightspace as its new learning management system for students starting next year — replacing Blackboard, which will end on June 30. Training for Brightspace will begin in spring and continue into the summer. The Echo
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Arkansas Department of Human Services warned that if the shutdown continues, November SNAP benefits may be delayed, affecting more than 220,000 recipients plus many families with children and older adults. The department advised beneficiaries to use any accrued funds and check with local food pantries as it awaits further guidance from USDA. Arkansas Times
