- ➤ NLR native John-Michael Powell’s crime drama 'Violent Ends' is screening today at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts for a Q&A before it opens in 400-600 theaters tomorrow — the film is set in the Ozarks and follows a young man forced to face his family’s violent past. Arkansas Times
- ➤ Good Weather and Cinema I/O will host a Halloween party tomorrow at 7 p.m. with DJs, karaoke, drinks, and a costume contest — horror films and live sets from local heavy-music acts will add a spooky edge to the night — for an unforgettable celebration. Arkansas Times
- ➤ Arkansas journalist Olivia Paschal announced her book Something In the Water has been sold to publisher Farrar, Straus and Giroux— the book will detail how Walmart and Tyson Foods grew from a small Arkansas region and changed American shopping and work practices. - ➤ The University of Central Arkansas will host celebrated writer Bessie Flores Zaldívar from November 6th through November 7th for a two-day residency to highlight her debut publication “Libertad” — a coming-of-age story. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Conway is preparing to build an AI data center on Lollie Road that will be a $1 billion, 300,000 square foot campus for an unnamed Fortune 100 company. City officials approved a 336-acre lease in April with a 30-year tax abatement, and the project is expected to create hundreds of full-time jobs as construction begins in coming years. The Echo
- ➤ Contractors with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission began removing old infrastructure at Lake Conway Dam last week to clear space for a new water-control system and weir—further work is planned in the coming weeks. Log Cabin Democrat
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Agriculture warned that Arkansas families could lose SNAP benefits if Congress does not pass a temporary spending bill before November 1 — about 240,000 Arkansans may be affected with local food banks bracing for increased demand. Lawmakers still have time to secure a funding deal and prevent one of the largest disruptions in this food aid program. ABC7
