  • Conway's new soccer complex, which opened on Feb. 24, has (10 fields) and will host a variety of recreational sports events and tournaments this summer that aim to boost local activity and visitor spending. City officials said they plan improvements such as additional signage, sidewalks, and a splash pad for families on hot days.  The Echo

  • U@UCA Podcast won the fifth Catalyst Award for its work highlighting the struggles and successes of first-generation students at UCA. Assistant Director of Student Affairs Alexandria Smith-Todd, co-host Emily Greer and VP Robin Williamson boosted the podcast’s profile—its win has brought more listeners and set the stage for a new season.  The Echo
  • UCA President Houston Davis shared statistics at a campus talk in the College of Business on March 20 showing that 55% of the 1,162 faculty and staff met target salary ranges while 15% fell below 90, affecting 170 employees. He said the study results will be emailed to everyone and used at the Board of Trustees meeting on May 29 to guide future cost-of-living and benefit adjustments—efforts to align pay with market standards.  The Echo

  • Meteorologists in Arkansas are using Doppler radar to track tornado risks as severe storms are expected today—officials say the data will help warn residents of dangerous weather conditions.  THV 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A House committee voted yes on Senate Bill 433 that would make public school classrooms and other public buildings show the Ten Commandments — the bill now awaits a full House vote before it goes to governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. If approved and signed, the measure will bring the commandment display to classrooms soon.  Arkansas Times
  • The Conway Transportation Department approved plans on March 11 to rebuild Nutters Chapel Road off Dave Ward, and work will begin in four to six weeks after finishing the Tucker Creek bridge on Salem Road (project cost $1,510,029). The project will add curb and gutter work, storm drain closures, bike lanes, and sidewalks (5-foot wide) with grass barriers to improve safety for residents.  The Echo
